Empathy workshops

The first meeting is over. It was lively and cheerful, but also informative. However, let's start from the beginning. It was a while ago that, with great pleasure, we announced workshops in kindergarten, an event which we co-organised. Łąccy does not only mean furniture and wooden floors, but also love for the forest and the conviction that its resources should not be wasted. That's why we used the remaining wood elements to create bird houses. To do so properly, we sought the advice of ornithologists Małgorzata Baginska and Urban Baginski. And it was them who conducted the first workshops with the children.

Let's learn about birds

Workshops under this title took place on the 5th of November with help of the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Protection of the Town Hall in Bytów. First we visited Bytów nursery and kindergarten called "The Friends of Mickey Mouse". Ornithologists started with a story about birds. The children learned how to take care of them (and birdhouses), saw a series of photographs and got to know the most popular species in our area. The children looked at different types of grains and learned that it is best to feed the birds with unshelled sunflower seeds (not crumbled bread!). However, what everyone was waiting for had been scheduled for the end. We dressed in warm, rainproof clothes, and went outside. The birdhouse was hung on a tree. From now on, together with the preschoolers, we are observing the new dwelling and can't wait to see its first winged inhabitants.

Do it yourself - a recipe for a birdhouse

This is just the beginning. We produced 100 nesting boxes and hope to donate more to other educational institutions. The Department of Agriculture and Environmental Protection is helping us a lot, but we also encourage you to contact Łąccy.

And if you, too, would like to build a nesting box yourselves, all you need to do is to follow some simple steps. Use planks, hollow tree trunks or waterproof plywood. Make the roof sloping so that snow or rain can run off freely. Also think about making the bottom of the box open. It will be easier to clean the bird house when the breeding season is over. You can find more information about nesting boxes HERE. As for us, we are preparing for the next workshops. We can't wait!
